[ She feels like such a hypocrite right now.

She's spoken about people not sacrificing themselves-- about how others would actually feel if they did something like this. But now that it's come up to this point, she thinks she finally understands how Taichi felt, back then.

It kind of makes her sick to the pit of her stomach. ]

[ She wears a thin smile that doesn't reach her eyes. ]

I'm just being selfish.

[Saki sighs. She's been doing a lot of that these days.]

I know. I'm being selfish, too.

I don't want to see a friend die right in front of me, trying to protect me. Not again.

. . . I can't promise that I won't volunteer again. But it won't just be to protect other people.

Then why?

[ She wears a thin smile and shakes her head. She won't say. Not here. ]

[Of course not. That would be too easy.

She'll reach out and pat Inaba on the head.]

...If I have any say in it, I won't let you die so easily.

[But she probably won't.]

[ She's quiet, just for a moment, and then: ]

Thank you.

[She smiles weakly.]

I'm just being selfish.

That's not a bad thing, you know.

[allmyfriendsaredead]

Maybe not right now.

[But there's still some things she'll never quite get over, some feelings of jealousy that will never heal.]
