Not feel like we're not real - you mean, like we're fictional characters from some television show or something?
[She says this quizzically...
...as if she doesn't have that very experience. Inaba knows that in some worlds, her life is fiction. Hell, she has proof of it in her very own home. Not that she'll let up on that fact.]
I see.
I wonder if that's due to some sort of ability... it doesn't sound natural. [Honestly, she's never had nightmares of her own personal death from back in the Hotel she was in prior to this. But then again, her own death was more comedic than traumatizing.] But 'almost', huh.
I'm no expert on the matter, but has anyone made an attempt to try lucid dreaming? I don't know if it'd even work in this case, but lucid dreaming in a nightmare like that might be helpful.
[Just twist the nightmare in some way to your own personal gain.]
That is exactly what I mean. Our worlds are connected by dreams, I believe, but because of the connection their imaginations have bred stories based on our lives. I've... seen what appears to be a video game based on my life.
[she frowned angrily as she said it. Their understanding was similar. In this world, they were fictitious, but Mother Superior had been trying to make them feel as if they weren't actually real, just fabrications of Sodder's dreams]
I've also seen a rather insulting mouse pad. That sort of thing is ... disconcerting at best.
The nightmares? They are not. It's a side effect that happens when we're brought back to life here. For a month, we dream of the night we died. It ... tends to make it hard to stop dreaming of it, if I were honest.
Lucid Dreaming? [Another frown. It wasn't a bad idea.] IF this place is a dream it might be a powerful tool, but I take it you mean in the dreams I'm speaking of? Then no.
[She doesn't sound too shocked, strangely enough, but that's because of her prior experiences.]
I can't say that I've experienced a video game based off of my life.
[There is, in fact, a video game that is based off of her character, but seems to deviate from her life story. Even if it's a possibility for her 'future'.
But a mouse pad, huh... well, that isn't the worst thing she's seen. But then again, she has dakimakuras of her boyfriends. She is not one to talk.]
A side effect -
[She hums to herself thoughtfully, resting a hand under her chin.]
I wonder what causes it. Or why. I don't get it.
[Since 'coming back' shouldn't be like that...
But other worlds could be different, she supposes.]
Yes. Well, I did mean in the dreams that you're speaking of. You might not be able to change everything in your dreams, but maybe... change minor things? Like - make a huge rubber duck appear, the size of a skyscraper.
[She sighed as she said it, breathing out slowly and focusing on what felt like the more important topic immediately at hand.]
I think... it is less of a punishment and more that it is hard to keep bringing us back. The longer it happens, the more it happens the longer it takes, and things are 'wrong' in the process.
[The thought of lucid dreaming made sense. Like the Great Sleep, only to make it silly...]
You mean, make the dream ridiculous so that it is less terrifying, in essence? I'm not sure how well it would work, but it is a thought.
I wonder why it's difficult in the first place... the logic of this world?
[She's died once and coming back was hilariously easy. And she knows that she can come back as many times as she wanted to easily as long as there was a replacement body for her.]
And yeah - that's basically what I'm saying. Plus, you can change the configuration of how ridiculous it is every night. Sure, it's a shot in the dark, but it's something.
The logic and magic of a dream world, without question. It is simply a matter of resources where I come from. Expensive, costly, time consuming but doable.
Here, I believe it is because of the dream itself. And you may be on to something there. I know that ... visions have tried to guide us to assume our imagination has real power here.
[She sighed.]
Remembering having my head chopped off night after night is not doing my mood any favors, bluntly put.
