Well I did leave some unfinished business there. And knowing that tons of people have seen it, it makes one part of my life a lot, lot easier.

[He'll explain that when the book comes up, but for now:]

I am curious to see who all of these people are, though. I recognize myself and Dazai-san on here, and I remember Yosano-san from the Hotel, but the others are unfamiliar to me. I bet they're people I meet after I leave the mafia, possibly Akutagawa's friends, or co-workers.

[Yep, he honestly sounds excited. And a little nervous. Because Inaba is going to see some dark stuff, depending on when this anime starts. Hopefully it's all the story of his life after he leaves the mafia, then they can skip the difficult stuff.]

I suppose that's fair. I don't think I could find my own series, since I'd have a vague idea on what the audience would find "interesting" and I'd probably die if anybody saw it.

[ There's a lot of embarrassing things that happened back home and she has no idea if she could possibly handle it. Nevertheless, she lets out a heavy sigh and tries to relax her shoulders a little bit, wearing a bit of a soft, awkward smile. ]

Anyway. . . did you want to watch it in here? Or should we go elsewhere?

[Admittedly Atsushi is curious about Inaba's world too, but he's not too keen on going and looking without asking first. Privacy and all.]

I'd say here or in my room. I want to see what's on here first, before other people see it.

We can watch it here, then. Just lock the door.

[ Well, if he ever asks her about it, she might let him because he's Atsushi, and she actually trusts him to not make fun of her for anything that happens in her series. ]

But no really he'll do that and then come on over and sit down on...probably her bed, unless she has a bunch of chairs or something. And then he'll offer up the DVD set. It's been opened, he looked at the packaging inside, but the dvds haven't been watched yet.]

[ Well, it's not as if she's hiding anything in particular in her room besides some of the stuff in her laptop and computer. Besides the bed there's only a single chair in front of the computer, but that's it, so he can take either the computer chair or the bed.

Inaba's taking the bed, though after taking the DVD set, she looks at the back.

And just grimaces. ]

. . . Funimation should feel bad for this synopsis.

[ Oh my god. ]

[He. He actually considers that choice for a moment. But ultimately opts for the chair because he is a wuss.]

They do seem to like their puns, don't they? And the summary isn't even accurate, it's telling a very kid-friendly version of the story.

If my series is an anime, I hope Funimation isn't releasing it.

[ Spoilers: it's released by Sentai Filmworks in English which is arguably worse. ]

Maybe they expected teens to watch this? Or younger people in general.

[ Inaba is a teen and is going to be watching this. ] Anyway, should we pop it in and start watching it?

I suppose we might as well.

[Fun fact: because it's a Funi dub, it's set to the dub track to start with. Which will be Interesting since it's just Atsushi talking for like the first few moments.

Atsushi does not seem to like his dub voice, though.]

Is that what I really sound like in English?

[ Inaba on the other hand finds herself snorting a little bit. ]

. . . Please don't make me answer that question, because I feel like that answer is going to be weird. Do you want me to switch the audio over?

Probably. It's going to be weird if I hear some strange voice for Dazai-san, or Nakahara-san, or Kyouka-chan, or anyone else I guess.

Bold of you to assume that it won't be just as weird in Japanese.

[ Nevertheless, she grabs the remote, pauses it, swaps it over to Japanese and. . .she's just going to start the episode from the beginning. ]

[Well at least his voice sounds right now. Though he's making a face at the state of anime!Atsushi's clothes.]

Did I burn through my bank account that fast? And why would being from an orphanage matter at this point, I've been on my own for six years now.

[THIS IS CONFUSING

He suspects some things were changed, or they just got it wrong entirely.]

[ It's actually pretty strange, hearing him in person and through the screen. To her, it feels like she's watching a movie and the actor is right next to her.

She does rest a hand under her chin a little thoughtfully as she makes her own comment on the matter. ]

It doesn't sound like this is after six years. . .? It sounds like you just got kicked out recently? Like a few days ago at best.

But that doesn't make any sense. I was 12 at the time, I wouldn't have looked like I did now. And even then, Dazai-san found me pretty quickly after that.

[Oh look who's on screen now. And Atsushi finds himself struggling with this a bit more than he thought he would.]

Hmm.

[ She just hums to herself contemplatively, taking out a notebook and writing down notes. ]

You don't mind, do you?

[ But then.

Dazai happens and she just stares. And then she hears his voice which makes her pause the DVD, glances at him for a second with a worried look on her face and then asks the much more important question here: ]

Are you. . . going to be okay?

[moonlightbeast]

I'll be fine.

[The answer comes almost immediately, but after a moment he thinks to say more, if only to reassure Inaba.]

He sounds exactly like him, that's all. I know this is...

[He doesn't want to say 'fake', even if it's not at all the right stuff.]

...not exactly real, but his voice is a perfect match. But it's okay, I'll be okay.

[He's actually curious to see where this goes, and to see if there's an explanation here somewhere.]

[dereban]

[ She finds herself sucking in a breath before sighing, uncertain if she believes him entirely before patting the bed. ]

Maybe you should sit next to me?

[ It might be better than sitting on the chair for him right now. ]

[Well, if she's inviting him, he'll go ahead and move to sit right next to her. He'll even lean on her a bit, so their shoulders are touching.]

It's different. I don't know why, but it's different. This isn't how things happened.

[dereban]

[ Thankfully, she'll allow him to lean on her; that's why she let him join her on the bed, after all. ]

Parallel universe. . .?

[ Is her first guess.

She does not unpause just yet, though. ]

[That. Actually makes him think of something.]

Does the box say anything about someone named 'Oda'?

["This is the only world where he writes his book."

That seems like a good way to tell if this is truly an alternate timeline or not.]

Uh. Give me a second.

[ She looks at the back of the box again and reads it aloud for him. ]

This one doesn't. And the other one. . . [ Reading this as well! ] Doesn't seem to mention that person, either.

[Hm. That's concerning.]

Dazai-san once told me "this is the only world where he writes his book." So if the world of this show is different from my world, then he would be dead. Which might be why he's not mentioned? He worked at the Armed Detective Agency in my world, just like Akutagawa.

[Now there's someone mentioned in the summaries.]

Does that mean that Dazai's aware of it. . .? Parallel universes.

[ With that sort of phrasing. There's a bit of a hum and Inaba's writing ] Usually in fiction, parallel universes are written out as spinoffs. So like a light novel or a manga or something like that. Do you want to keep watching, though?

I...I'm sure he did.

[After all, Dazai had told him exactly how such a thing would be possible.

But at that last question, he will nod. Watch the anime, Inaba, and watch as Atsushi's mood gradually drops over the next few hours.]
