I think I finally found the series about my world.
[Don't ask him how much time he wasted on that one game just to find the 'Atsushi Nakajima' in it. This DVD set looks much more promising too, it even has someone who looks just like Atsushi on the front! Albeit without the black stripe like what Atsushi has, and his clothes are different. And he doesn't look nearly as Tired as Atsushi perpetually is.]
Well I did leave some unfinished business there. And knowing that tons of people have seen it, it makes one part of my life a lot, lot easier.
[He'll explain that when the book comes up, but for now:]
I am curious to see who all of these people are, though. I recognize myself and Dazai-san on here, and I remember Yosano-san from the Hotel, but the others are unfamiliar to me. I bet they're people I meet after I leave the mafia, possibly Akutagawa's friends, or co-workers.
[Yep, he honestly sounds excited. And a little nervous. Because Inaba is going to see some dark stuff, depending on when this anime starts. Hopefully it's all the story of his life after he leaves the mafia, then they can skip the difficult stuff.]
[It's been a long week after they had arrived back onto Site 2. With the conclusion of the resort incident and their month and a half long disappearance, there was bound to have been some fuss and bureaucracy to climb over before they could settle back into some semblance of a daily routine. But today was the day he'd finally finished up with the worst of the paperwork, and he was ready for a break.]
[ When she gets this specific text message, she just finds herself staring at it for about a minute or two before she finally manages to quickly text back: ]
[ So after those two weeks after the game and coming back, she is gonna sneak back into Atsushi's room - or well, right outside it, still in her school uniform before knocking.
When she speaks up, it's with a purposely deep voice, trying to sound masculine. ]
Excuse me, I have one special delivery for a Nakajima Atsushi?
[Still, he opens the door and gives her a warm smile. He's trying so hard to keep himself calm, but he feels like he's about to jump out of his skin. Six long weeks, and he's missed her every single day.
But instead of just grabbing her, he'll offer out his hand to her. Come on in, it's time for a reunion.]
Damn it. Maybe I should have asked the gods to give me a voice changing device instead.
[ She snaps her fingers as if disappointed, but she's anything but; matching his warm smile with one of her own, grabbing his hand into her own and squeezing it tight.
It's been too long since they've last seen each other. Way too long, and she's thought about him every single second. ]
I'm back.
[ She says those words in Japanese.
Tadaima.
Even if Inaba doesn't think of this place as home, it's still the place where he is. And it's enough to make her tear up already. ]
['Okaeri'. Because even if this building, or even this room isn't home, Atsushi's "home" is wherever he and Inaba can be together.
Seeing those tears in her eyes is what spurs him to pull her into a tight hug too.One that he's reluctant to let go of, because it's been Too Long since he's held her like this.]
Sometime in the evening, Marisa sends her a PM over the group chat. ]
Hey, Inaba. Got a favor to ask of you. There's a position that opened up last month, for teaching new agents how to handle flying, and I'm looking to sign up for it, but the deadline already passed. You think you can pull some strings and get me in as a last-minute signup?
[ With Inaba's paperwork clearance level, she will indeed be able to get Marisa in as a last-minute signup for an "infantry flying instructor."
The problem is that by "last minute" she means "the people who sign up for this are leaving in two days to go to the middle of Siberia.
It's always been my dream to go camping in subzero temperatures. Lose a few fingers, go to sleep not sure if you'll get eaten by wolves or not, you know.
[ there's a pause after this response, long enough that Inaba might think she's being serious...? there's no clarification
but no, she's just shitposting again ]
It'll take me to where my boyfriend's being stationed, right now. It's a rotating thing, so I'll be back, but I'll get to see him for a while. He's been off on this stupid mission in the Siberian wilderness for like, six months.
[Inside of the wrapping paper is a box. And inside of the box are three plushies dressed in outfits he must have either made himself or commissioned someone else (like, say, a certain cosplay fanatic) for: the white cat in Beast!Soosh's trademark clothes, the orange bear in shinigami robes, and the black rabbit in Inaba's uniform.]

Atsushi is knocking at your door, and he has a boxed set of DVDs with him!]

If you don't mind, I certainly don't. You're braver than I am for wanting to watch your own series.
